Release your Vent Thursday (February 25, 2021)

 Release your VENT Thursday!

Congratulations, you made it through hump day, and your time off is just around the corner. In the spirit of exercising all your work demons before the weekend is here to improve work-life balance, I am starting a Release your vent Thursday Post.

The way this works is you post your vent or send it in a message directly to me to get it out and eliminate the burden of carrying over the week's work issues into your time off,

Thank you for all your direct submissions last week. I was expecting a lot of negativity, so I was pleasantly surprised by all the positivity, and I am happy that it helped everyone having a good weekend.

My vent this week is all about accountability and the lack of it in our current environment. In our constant evolution into making things easier and more accessible, we seem to feed the need to make it all about the ME and less about the much-needed US in our modern society.

There's an episode of Seinfeld that displays this in full view when George Costanza is at a children's birthday party, and a small fire breaks out. He pushes through kids, women, a clown, and the older woman with the walker with no thought about anyone but himself; this at times is how it feels to live in modern society.

Life comically mirrors this exact scene where a state representative decided to take a mini-vacation while people in his state were in a crisis. When given the opportunity to be a grown-up and be accountable for his actions, he instead defaulted to the Me culture and blamed his family.

When we fail and are accountable, it creates several growth opportunities. We learn from our failures and then create innovative solutions, so nowadays, what we need more is accountability and less of the no-accountability ME mentality.

I am not just the owner of this vent; I am also a participant, so in the spirit of accountability, I will start to be a good neighbor and think of people as fellow-passengers on lifes' voyage and not just creatures bound on their own journeys.

Well, that's my vent this Thursday. Vent, get it out, and improve your work-life balance.
