Release your VENT Thursday!
Release your VENT Thursday!
Congratulations, you made it through hump day, and your time off is just around the corner. In the spirit of exercising all your work demons before the weekend is here to improve work-life balance, I am starting a Release your vent Thursday Post.
The way this works is you post your vent or send it in a message directly to me to get it out and eliminate the burden of carrying over the week's work issues into your time off,
Here is mine below:
Growing up in Los Angeles, I took many film industry courses that studied the beauty of the simplistic movies of the '30s and '40s, where there were minimal special effects and a higher investment made in dialogue and storytelling.
I became a fan of the Frank Capra series of movies about the mentality of helping out the little guy and looking out for your neighbor, which is similar to the pass it forward but its more of a lifestyle of looking out for the other fellow as stated by several of his movies' characters.
I think in our current environment, with the repercussions of the pandemic and all the political divisions in our nation that this lifestyle outlook of being selfless and not looking at people through a filter of them against us but instead of embracing the differences and having a great understanding that we are all the same deep down inside regardless of the different views and upbringings.
These movies came out of a similar environment when the depression hit. Several families were uprooted and lost their homes; there was a sense that life was not fair, but instead of dwelling on the negativity, people embraced other people and gave those that needed a helping hand; of course, these were the messages and the feelings that I took away from watching these movies so I might be naive and asking for too much.
In the modern world of 2021, where we are working remotely more and more and communicating less and less in person, it's easy to lose that sense of human kindness that is usually associated with our in-person interactions because it's easier to be more blunt when the receiver is not standing in front of you actively engaged looking at your facial expressions for conversation queues.
It is easy to go the opposite way of the lookout for the little fellow mentality. If we took time to look out for all of our neighbors, stop the divisive communication practices, embrace our difference, and offer a helping hand to those who needed help. Our world would be a lot better. Well, that's my vent on this frosty Thursday. Vent, get it out, and improve your work-life balance.
